Reflections on the 2023 Diocesan Womens’ Guild Conference of the Diocese of Aba Ngwa North (Anglican Communion)

Introduction

The Diocesan Womens’ Guild Conference of the Diocese of Aba Ngwa North (Anglican Communion) is a significant event that brings together women from various Archdeaconries and Mission areas within the Diocese. The conference, which took place from 6th – 9th July, 2023 was hosted by St. Thomas Anglican Church Umuakpara. It provided an opportunity for women to come together, learn, worship, and fellowship as one big family.

Day 1: Opening Service and Morning Session

The conference began with an opening service and holy communion, presided over by His Lordship the RT Reverend Nathan Chinenye Kanu, PhD, JP, Bishop of the Diocese of Aba Ngwa North. Reverend Cannon Charles Ubani, Reverend Odiwonma Ihediwa, Venerable Dr. Benneth Nwokedi, Venerable Levi Obinwanne Edward, and Venerable Emmanuel Ogbonna assisted the bishop during the service. The Epistle was read by Reverend Cannon Ezechimere Uruakpa, and the Gospel was read by Reverend Israel Onyemaechi. The morning session was moderated by Evangelist Mrs. Franca Odiwonma, who led the proceedings.

After the Holy Communion service, the moderator called upon the Cathedral Archdeaconry to give a vote of thanks. Day 2: Morning Session and Afternoon Exposition

The morning session of the second day was moderated by Evangelist Mrs. Chinasa Nwaorgu. Mrs. Favour Loveday led the praise and worship, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. Rev. Christian Nwoko conducted the opening devotion, preparing the hearts and minds of the attendees for the day’s activities. Bible study followed, delving deeper into the Word of God and providing spiritual nourishment.

The Mgboko Mission Area delivered a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the conference.

After breakfast, the clergy wives’ choral band group led the praise and worship, creating an atmosphere of joy and reverence. The arrival of the bishop and his entourage was announced, followed by dramatic presentations and renditions by the clergy wives’ choir. The president of the Women’s Ministry, Princess Mrs. Odionyenfe Kanu, delivered her presidential address, providing inspiration, guidance, and encouragement to the attendees.

Evangelist Mrs. Chioma Ehilegbu moved a motion for the acceptance of the presidential address, and Evangelist Mrs. Loveth Onyeuwaoma seconded the motion. Day 4: Holy Communion Service, Final Communique, and Closing Formalities

The final day of the conference began with a holy communion service, celebrated by Venerable Levi Obinwanne Edward and assisted by other clergy members. Ngwa Archdeaconry was called upon to deliver a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the successful organization of the conference.

The final communique was read, highlighting the key resolutions and recommendations arising from the conference discussions. Closing formalities were conducted, signifying the end of the conference. Final appreciations and prize-giving ceremonies were held to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of individuals and groups during the conference. The dedication and hard work of the conference planning committee, led by Lady Dr. Amaka Kamanu and her assistant, Lady Queen Onwuegbuchulam, were acknowledged and appreciated.

Throughout the conference, the presence of distinguished guests added prestige and honor to the event. Notable personalities in attendance included the president of the Women’s Ministry of Calabar Diocese, the president of the Women’s Ministry of Isiala Ngwa North Diocese, the president of the Women’s Ministry of Isiala Ngwa South Diocese, the president of the Women’s Ministry of Umuahia Diocese, the president of the Women’s Ministry of Isimbano Diocese, Honorable Justice Sir Innocent Nwabughogu (Chancellor), Barr. Friday Ikechi Nwaogwugwu (KSC), Chief Magistrate Lady Ngori Nwoke (Diocesan Legal Adviser), and other distinguished individuals who graced the occasion.

The conference provided a platform for spiritual growth, knowledge sharing, and fellowship among the women of the diocese. It was a time of learning from experienced clergy and guest speakers who delivered insightful messages and teachings.
