Suddenly, a sound like a rushing wind filled the room, and tongues of fire appeared, resting upon each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, proclaiming the mighty works of God.
This supernatural event was not a mere coincidence or a random occurrence, but a fulfillment of the divine plan and promise of Jesus. Pentecost, which means “fifty days” in Greek, was a Jewish festival known as the Feast of Weeks, celebrated fifty days after Passover. During this feast, the people would bring their offerings to the temple, expressing gratitude for the harvest and commemorating the giving of the Law to Moses on Mount Sinai. Little did they know that this year, Pentecost would mark the birth of a new era—the era of the Spirit.
As the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, they were transformed from timid and fearful individuals into bold and courageous witnesses for Christ.
